SpininGround

Video-Installation; 2024

SpinninGround is a playful examination of the surroundings of highways, the appearance of landscape and the perception of movement as well as a declaration of love for bikes. The interactive video-installation uses the bike wheel as an imagegenerating machine and makes the nonplace of highway surroundings appear in a new way. What is besides the highway? This question hit me once during biking nearby the so called Wienerwaldsee going beneath the bridge of A1: On a map I was already at this place, but somehow somewhere else - in a car on the highway. This strong and strange sentiment of the nonplace was the starting point. The video shows a montage of a bicycle tour lasting several days along the Austrian highway A1. While the rotating image – the camera was fixed to the wheel spokes - shows a hypnotizing, abstract landscape, to catch a glimpse of an upright ground, one has to use the pedal oneself and turn it in the right direction at the right speed: the moment of turning becomes a playful moment of exploration.
